An inclusive and integrated ocean science community, fueled by multifaceted knowledge and capacity exchange throughout the globe.
To facilitate capacity building around the world in ocean science and its application through international exchange with the global community.
Oceanography is a global science and we need partners everywhere to successfully observe and model the global ocean, and to develop solutions for a more sustainable treatment of the ocean.
Just as the Peace Corps inspires young Americans to engage the world, Ocean Corps will inspire oceanographers to engage the world via capacity development and research collaboration.
Ocean science infrastructure is unequally distributed across the globe. Ocean Corps will create and support existing collaboration with ocean scientists globally to address this inequity.
COESSING is a one-week summer school that has taken place yearly since 2015 with the goal of educating and inspiring West African scientists at all career stages to pursue ocean-related fields. From 2015-2019 COESSING was held in Ghana, from 2020-2021 it was held virtually, and in 2022 it was held in Nigeria, which demonstrates that the summer school concept can be successful in multiple countries and formats. COESSING is one example of the exchange modalities that will be supported by Ocean Corps. COESSING is also an endorsed UN Ocean Decade Project.
We are a team from a variety of backgrounds with a shared interest in ocean science capacity development and research collaboration across the globe
